I Got Robbed In Greece! [Part 2]

Image
Here was Part 1 .   March 30, 2018 On our third day in Athens, my sister G and I traveled to Kifissia. But so many things happened on this day. We checked out of our hotel in Syntagma. I had my camera in my jumper pocket so I put my green-cased mobile phone inside my backpack, right on the top for convenience. We went back to the Monastiraki Market to buy souvenirs. We took the train to Piraeus Station, where we visited the Electric Railways Museum inside the station. They literally has a museum inside their train station. And it has free entrance! The guy in it told us not to take photos. There was not a single other person in the entire museum. Not that it's big or anything. But there were stairs leading up to other parts of the place and G was holding her phone. The guy working there got paranoid for some reason and kept ordering us not to take photos and it got awkward because he kept staring at us. So we got out of there. G and I went o...

I Got Robbed In Greece! [Part 1]

Image
In March this year, my sister G (that is literally what I call her), and I went on a 2-week trip to Greece. The title of this post is what I have decided to name this trip. I feel the two weeks I have spent in such a foreign country has changed me. As I have read in a book shop in Athens International Airport, "The world is like a book. For those who do not travel, they only read one page.", travelling and just seeing the world in a different perspective really changes a person's point of view in not only the world but life itself. G and I planned this trip for half a year before we actually decided to go. My sister had never went on holiday abroad after she moved back to Hong Kong. I, on the other hand, went on a tour around Europe then Hokkaido, Japan a few years later, so I have some experiences of what to expect. The woman did not believe me when I told her "Things sometimes would not go as you expect" , until she learnt it the hard way... March 27...

That Time When I Escaped A Pervert

Image
For a young-looking girl without a companion walking down a busy street of Hong Kong can be dangerous. Anywhere could be dangerous, actually. And I'm sure anyone must have experienced this some point in their lives. Become a target of a pervert, I mean. Well, don't think Hong Kong is just a city of fun and excitement because it's not. Especially when you live in the "poorer" districts. Not that North Point is actually poor, but it is considered a poorer area to live in. So this is what happened to me: I was on my way home from work and was walking down a street. There were many other people around. I was listening to music through my earphones and was walking normally. Then I happened to have made eye contact with an old man walking up from the opposite direction. He caught me looking at him. So I quickly looked away, because that's what you're supposed to do . But I noticed he was walking a little uneven . But I wasn't really wary of anythi...

Sayonara Horikita Maki. But Hello Again, Ikuta Toma!

Image
I've mentioned in my "How I turned from idoling ayu to Arashi"  post that it was Mizobata Junpei who got me into Japanese dramas. Although I've seen a few before I found Junpei, it was him who actually started my J-drama craze. One of the very first dramas I saw was Hanazakari no Kimitachi e . Although Junpei only had a small supporting role in it, it led me into the three main stars of the drama, Horikita Maki, Ikuta Toma and Oguri Shun. Long story short, I fell in love with them and it just started spreading from there. I started watching all three's individual starring works, and Horikita Maki became the first Japanese actress I love. She remain very important to me to now. With the recent news about her retiring from the entertainment industry, it did brought me sadness, and my tears did well up in my eyes a bit. I will miss her dearly. The Japanese entertainment industry lost yet another great talent. But I also feel great for her, and I resp...

I'M AN ARASHI FANCLUB MEMBER!!!

Image
So it's official. I'm their fanclub member. I don't know what to feel. It just seems so surreal. Am I dreaming?   I have been Arashi's fan for two and a half years, and during this time, just thinking about joining their fanclub was something of a long-distance dream. Because it would've been a step closer to seeing Arashi live. Joining their fanclub means I get a chance at balloting their concert tickets. And since I'm going to Hakkaido, Japan, this October, it will become my first time in Japan, which means I might get more opportunities to go to other places in Japan in the future. Not that it's that simple because I still need to compete with 1.9 million other fanclub members, but I'm getting nearer, and that alone gives me hope. I actually thought joining their fanclub was something impossible since you have to have a Japan address, which literally means you have to live in Japan, in order to have a chance to join. And it was all thanks to my ...

APRIL 8: Happy 18th Anniversary, Ayu! Happy 20th Birthday... me!

Image
April 8. The day an irreplaceable star was born. Eighteen years ago, a 19-year-old Japanese girl wondered around the city of Tokyo, Japan, looking for a place of her own, a place where she belongs. ayumi hamasaki may not have been with me for that long, but for these 6 years that I've been a fan, she has let me see many things, and led me into other interests. She has been a legend. She is still a legend. And she may not be the hit right now, but deep down in my heart, she will always have a rightful place. ayu was the one who led me into J-pop, who led me into the fun world of Japanese entertainment. And even though the industry may not be what it seems, it has brought me much joy and tears throughout these years. And ayu was also the reason I came across Arashi and became their fan. Everything began with ayumi hamasaki, so I will never forget the memories that I had with her, the experiences that she led me through, and the hard times she helped me through. Happy 18th...

That time when four bitchy aunties sat next to me in a restaurant

Image
This post is from June last year, a post I hadn't been bothered to finish. So I'm just going to post this real quick, but not that you really have to read it since it's just my usual ranting about how sucky life is. If there is one thing you should learn about the people of Hong Kong, is that they don't give a shit about you. They would say bad things about you right in front of you. They would push past you while you're walking on the streets. They would stand right in front of you when you're trying to walk past, and they would not move. They walk so slow... and you're rushing (sigh). They would stare at you (for no particular reason at all). They would peak in your shopping bag to see what you've bought. They would look at you in the lift to try to memorise your face (creeps) when you press your floor. They could complain about everything, anything. And the list goes on. And they wouldn't give a crap about what you think of them, they just does ...

ACGHK 2015 (27/07/2015)

The 17th Choice of Animation, Comics & Games Expo Anime, Gundam, Kamen Rider, Ultra Man, Marvel, Avengers, Star Wars, Disney, Hello Kitty, Doreamon, Funassyi, Yo-Kai Watch, Vanguard, Yu-Gi-Oh, J-Pop, Assasination Classroom, Attack on Titan, One Piece, Cosplay, Playstation, Xbox, Window 10, Manga, Comic, Manga, Manga... and more Manga. On Monday, I had a day of a lifetime, seeing so much things I love. Life has been busy so it has taken me so long to write this post. I went with my sister, and there was this one main point why this day has been so great. Is the fact that nearly all the people who attended this festival were young adults like me, and... very nerdy. You know how I mentioned I rarely see people my age these days, and that they have seemed to have vanished from my world, and that all that's left is annoying children, bitchy adults and super dumb elderly people??? That's why seeing young adults like me are such a huge deal to me! An...

Drama Thoughts: Tatakau! Shoten Girl

Image
Title:「戦う!書店ガール」 Run time: 2015.04.14 - 06.09, Tuesday 10pm I seriously do not understand why this drama had such low viewership ratings. I mean, I know people don't really watch that much television anymore, but for a drama this good, it was a bit of a shame. But since this drama is mostly about books, I guess it's not many people's kind of shit. The thing is, I love books. Books is my life. I have lost count of how many books I've read in my life. I have worked in a library before, and currently I, too, work in a bookstore (yeah, I finally told you where I work, sigh). Which was why when this drama was first announced, I couldn't wait to see it. The title is Tatakau! Shoten Girl , which literally translates to "Fight! Bookstore Girl". And since I can relate to the drama with my real personal life, it makes it that much more good. Except the fact that my colleagues are all older men and women, and none my age, I envy the fact that in the drama...

My Asian identity crisis

Image
I already mentioned in one of my previous posts on how I feel about being a foreigner and all the confusion and shits that comes along with it. But I feel like this topic deserves to be a separate post itself, and also because I've found a video on YouTube that basically sums up my feelings and I totally agree with every word they say. As I have already mentioned, being an Asian living in a foreign country is not easy. But I have gradually adapted to that fact and I've lived well in the UK. I have saw myself as one of the British people (let's be honest, I am a British citizen because I have a British passport) and all was well, until I moved back to my home city. Now, in my 10 years of being in the UK, I have only been back in HK for 2 weeks. I remember after my 2 week holiday to Hong Kong, when I arrived back in the UK, I bulked. Like, cried my eyes out, and I couldn't stop. I didn't know what was going on, why was I crying. It was probably an emotional thing...

ARASHI IN HONG KONG??

Image
No, I don't mean the Johnny's group Arashi in Hong Kong. Ha, I wish! I'm just making a pun on their name. What I mean is there is a storm coming to Hong Kong right now. It's windy and raining outside. When it's raining in Hong Kong, plus the many crowded people, you get disaster. Yesterday I went shopping with my mum, when we were suddenly hit by heavy rain, man, we went through hell. It was hell. You know, when I was in England, I loved rain. I loved putting up my umbrella and listening to the sound of the rain hitting it. Even though I will be soaked and frozen because the rain is so cold I wouldn't be able to feel my fingers, ah I really really misses it. The memories I had. I really want to go back to those times. But now in Hong Kong, it's completely different. The rain is not cold. It's dirty. People get pissed. And annoyed. I get pissed. And annoyed. At the people. And then we'll try to get through the crowd with our umbrellas. Raining i...

That time when my Childcare lecturer asked me a racist question

Image
Okay, it is once again, a post about my shitty life as a foreigner. For the first year of college, I studied Childcare and Education, looking to become a nursery nurse. I've had childcaring experiences since I was 15, so it was to become my lifetime occupation. Sigh, things didn't go my way in the end, and I ended up doing something else. Anyway, I was the only Asian in my class and at the beginning, my childcare lecturer was talking about children's hair, and how it changes colour as they get older. And it's true. My classmates were like, "I was born with blond hair, but it changed to brown while I was growing up...", bla bla bla. So then the teacher finally settled on me and ended up asking me this super racist question that I'm sure she did not meant on purpose to offend me, but it hit me quite hard. "Did you always have black hair?" Oh my god. It's a surprise I didn't start to beat her up then and there! But you know what...

Hong Kong at Midnight - Indulge in a World of Avengers!

Image
SPOILERS ALERT! (Okay, just a little bit) Last night, I became one of the many people who have already seen the new Avengers movie ' Avengers: Age of Ultron '. I don't know about your country, but in Hong Kong, we have the privilege of having the movie released here first (XD), earlier than the US. Anyway, last night my family and I went to the cinemas after our long day of work, to see this movie that we were all just  dying to watch. I LOVE THE AVENGERS! Before we saw this movie, everywhere in Hong Kong were just full of Avengers-related things. Like, everywhere. Avengers models in shopping malls. Avengers models in Seven Eleven. Avengers posters in MTR. Trailers being played on big screens. Colleagues constantly talked about how they have already seen the movie (quick!) while trying not to spoil it. We have this massive poster in our home. We have collected two Avengers models. We just love it. My whole family. Actually, any...

J-POP VS K-POP (the neverending comparison)

Image
If you have read my older posts, you would've realised that I'm quite biased. And I write based on my opinions (that are based on facts) , so try not to take it too seriously. I know everyone has different music tastes, so I respect that, so if you get offended, note that I didn't mean to offend you, okay? So I want to write about an interesting topic that somehow keeps coming up. It is the endless debate of which is better between Japanese pop music and Korean pop music that people just love to talk about, for some reason. So I want to settle it once and for all, to end this endless comparison between the two music genres. Before I start, I want to tell you a fact, okay. "J-Pop" was named by their own Japanese people to separate their own pop music from normal pop music. "K-Pop" was named because Korean people  copied off of J-Pop to separate their own. Okay? Got that? Let's start. I already said I grew up with Japanese stuff, but J-Pop di...

Ohno, you're not THAT old!!

"I always feel like I'm not doing anything particularly significant, so I never think to myself, "I did this, aren't I amazing!?" I don't think about how "It's so amazing that we held shows in Hawaii!" either. Just "Thank you very much", Thank you for letting us do this", I guess... It's the fans who are always raising us up, who are offering us their support, I think. I mean, as we get older it feels more and more embarrassing to be on television. Even when people scream for us, it makes me think, "No, I'm an old man now", "But thank you", because they're so considerate of our feelings."   - Ohno Satoshi, ARASHI BLAST in Hawaii ------------------------------------ Ah, don't you just love his humility. Thank you, Ohno, us fans love you too!! ------------------------------------ Okay, to be honest, even though I'm only 19 years old, I feel OLD. Like too much life experiences...

GUTS!... and why it is such a special song to me

Image
Title:「GUTS!」 Artist: 嵐 (ARASHI) Release date: 2014.04.30 Last year, Arashi released their single, GUTS! , and the song became quite popular in Japan. It was used as the theme song for Nino's drama,「弱くても勝てます」.  It was also the first single they released after I became a fan. You know how ayumi hamasaki doesn't really release singles anymore? And I got very bored, so having an artist I newly liked release a single was like new stuff to me. At the time I was still in England, and they don't sell Asian stuff in music stores there and I also don't shop online, so I got depressed I couldn't buy the single. Well, before I was already depressed all the time because I couldn't buy ayu's releases. LOL. Anyway, I really like GUTS! . You get to see Arashi looking like teachers and being all positive and happy and encouraging. I really like the choreography to it as well. Every time I listen to this song I just can't help but dance to it. It is a fun song....

Endless loneliness - Only family matters - But sometimes even that is not enough

Image
This is my true life experience. And I'm going to share it. Say I'm just reminiscing back down memory lane. So... Have you ever had friends, then loose them after you took on separate life paths? This is what I have been experiencing my whole life. Sad isn't it? And I couldn't do anything about it. I can't even remember if I had friends before I moved to England. I was 8 years old at the time. Let's say I did. But then I moved away, so we definitely lost contact then. In primary school in England, I had a lot of friends. I remember I had this girl friends group, and we even hung out with younger years as well. I was voted as the "house captain" and I was really popular in that school. I would also visit my friends' houses. I was happy . But then the few months before I were to graduate from the school, the friends group I had somehow split up, and my two best friends ended up hanging out with the bitch of our year group (I know, right), so ...
