Why Maou should have ended like Revenge...
I have began watching Revenge since way before I've seen Maou. Since then, I have always thought Revenge is so similar to Maou in the sense that both is about revenge on those who have destroyed their family, but with Revenge a lot more detailed and complicated. Maou was short and straight forward. Well, Maou is a Japanese drama, whereas Revenge is American, so it makes perfect sense.
And now that I have finally watched the finale of Revenge, my mind is just basically filled with "ah, this ending is how Maou should have ended". Revenge has the best ending, ever, for a vengeance drama, and if Maou had ended like that, I bet it would have been more well received.
5 points on why Revenge is similar to Maou :
1. Main character switched name and identity in order to carry out revenge plan
2. Battle between the two main characters
3. Main character uses manipulation to carry out revenge plan (i.e. use others to kill)
4. Nearly all supporting characters dies
5. Final showdown between the two main during the finale... with a gun too.
There's more points, like how both drama main characters has their own box of stuff that sort of represent their revenge. Or how it involves police, well... uhum, of course it involves the police. Or how the main characters never gets their lovers. Oh wait, in Revenge, Amanda does. She gets an actual ending. Like, Maou really shouldn't have ended like that. You can't kill off the two main characters and turn them into butterflies! Or maybe you can, since they did end the darn drama like that. In Revenge the main character nearly dies but she survives, instead she had the heart of the person she was trying to carry revenge on, put inside her. So that she will continue to live without being able to move on from what she had done, sort of like karma. That's how Maou should have ended! That, and the fact that Naruse should have gotten Shiori. Wouldn't it had been better if it had ended like that? Like, During the final showdown, someone else killed Serizawa, Naruse survives and lives on. He marries Shiori (somehow, lol) but for the rest of his life, he will forever remember.
Haha, just kidding. The way Maou ended somehow made sense even though I personally wasn't satisfied with it. Well, Maou was just sad. And tragic. Because it had been a misunderstanding all along. The main character showed sympathy, and questions whether revenge is meaningful, and hesitates. He had nothing left to loose, and is clearly suffering from guilt. He chose to forgive. Whereas Revenge was very obviously intentioned. Of course, the main character showed sympathy too, but none of that tragic stuff from Maou. No, Maou was just plain sad. Revenge, on the other hand, was so how it should have ended. That the finale should be Victoria dies and Amanda gets Jack. Because Victoria is evil, so none of that sad stuff from Maou where Serizawa is not. Serizawa felt sorry, and that he wanted to be able to give something good back to society as an atonement for his sins.
Anyway, it's just that I've recently finished Revenge and I misses it already, and the darn finale made me weep my eyes out so bad it reminded me of Maou, a drama I've seen like, over 20 times already, and it made me think what Maou would've been like if it had a finale like Revenge. That's what inspired this post, lol. Both dramas are great and has perfect endings in their own rights. Comparing was not intentioned, just my weird ass thoughts running wild, and I felt like sharing, that's all.
